The entries

Task menu

  • Correct – spelling and grammar in the selected text.
  • Improve (submenu) – with Improve, No Filler Words, More Friendly, More Convincing.
  • Shorten – by a percentage you specify.
  • Summarize selection – to a word count you specify.
  • My writing style (submenu) – apply a saved style, define a new one, manage your styles.

All of them work on selected text in an open email.

Which one for which email

  • More Friendly – for rejections, reminders and anything you drafted more sharply than you mean it.
  • No Filler Words – for long emails nobody reads to the end.
  • More Convincing – when you are asking for something.
  • Shorten – when the email will be read on a phone.

Shorten and Summarize

Both ask for a number and tell you the length of your selected text:

  • Shorten – a percentage between 1 and 99, 20 by default. It says how much should go.
  • Summarize selection – a word count; around 20 % of the original length is suggested.

Making changes visible

Whether the result is inserted directly or shown as a marked-up change depends on your settings. Outlook has its own preset for this, separate from Word's.

For an email you are about to send anyway, direct replacement is usually more comfortable. For an important one, you are better off seeing what changed first.

Your writing style

Under My writing style ▸ Define my writing style you have a style profile built from your own emails. There are five steps, and the add-in shows them to you first:

  1. You enter your name – so that your own mails can be told apart from other people's within mail chains.
  2. All currently open emails are gathered as samples, including those opened from .MSG files. So open the mails you want used as samples first.
  3. You can say what the analysis should pay particular attention to.
  4. You review and amend the analysis and the final style instruction.
  5. The result is saved in your Logiks account and is then available in Word and in chat as well.

If no emails are open, the add-in says so and asks you to open them and try again.
