Correcting, tidying, shortening and anonymising cells

• Correct – spelling and grammar in the selected cells.
• Write Neatly – turns keywords into proper sentences, with context.
• Shorten – shortens the text in every selected cell by a percentage.
• Anonymize – replaces identifying details.
• Switch Party – rewrites from the other side's point of view.

All of them work cell by cell: every selected cell is processed individually and the result goes back into the same cell.

Write Neatly

The Excel-specific entry. Meant for columns holding keywords – "customer annoyed, delivery 3 days late, refund agreed" – that are needed as continuous prose.

The add-in asks first: "Please provide the context that should be taken into account, if any:" This is where you put what the model cannot know from the cell alone: what the table is about, who the readers are, what your abbreviations mean. Leaving this field empty is the most common reason for unusable results.

Shortening in Excel

The percentage question is worded a little differently than in Word: the add-in tells you the average and the maximum word count of your cells and bases its suggestion on the average.

The percentage applies to each cell individually. With cells of very different lengths that means the short ones end up too short.

What applies to all of them

• Select cells that have content. With nothing selected, the add-in asks whether the entire worksheet is meant.
• Locked cells will not work; the add-in says so. Remove sheet protection first.
• Formulas get replaced. If a cell holds a formula and you have its text processed, the result sits there afterwards as text – the formula is gone. Select only cells with fixed content.
• With very large selections the add-in warns that the output may be incomplete. Work in blocks.
• Skipped cells are listed at the end with reasons and a diagnostic log. Those cells are unchanged.

Esc aborts a running operation.

Save first

There is Undo Last Insert, but only for the last run and only once. Save the workbook before you set one of these loose on a lot of cells.
