What this does
Task menu ▸ Undo Last Insert
Restores the cells that the add-in's last run changed to their previous state – values and formulas.
You need this because Excel's own undo does not reliably cover changes made from an add-in.
The three limitations
- Only the last run. Every new run replaces the remembered state. Two runs in a row means only the second can be taken back.
- Only once. After undoing, the remembered state is used up. The entry is greyed out afterwards.
- No redo. What you have undone does not come back – the screen tip says as much: "the insertion cannot be repeated."
When the entry is greyed out
Then there is nothing to undo: either there has been no run yet, or you have already undone one. Neither is an error.
What comes back and what does not
What is restored is the content of the affected cells – the earlier value or the earlier formula. Formatting, column widths and whatever else was changed on the sheet are not part of it.
If a worksheet has been renamed or deleted in the meantime, the add-in can no longer find the cells in question; it skips them silently.
After the undo, Excel recalculates the workbook in full.
The better protection
This feature is an emergency exit, not a backup. Before a larger run: save the workbook, or copy the sheet and work on the copy. Then you can still go back tomorrow.
