Why there are limits

Long texts and large files cost processing time – and at some point you are waiting longer than the result is worth. So in a few places Logiks AI Assistant stops doing the most expensive part and does the rest anyway.

The awkward part: most of these limits do not announce themselves. You see no window, only a result that looks different from usual. This article tells you which cases those are, so you do not mistake them for faults.

The values may be different for you

All the numbers below are the defaults. Your administrator can adjust them. What actually applies to you is shown under Task ▸ Settings in the Settings managed by your administrator section.

Above 5,000 characters formatting is not preserved

For longer texts the add-in gives up on carrying bold, italic and the like through processing. The text is still processed in full – it just comes back unformatted.

So if a short passage keeps its formatting and a long one does not, that is not a fault but this limit. In the settings it is called Maximum text for keeping format (chars).

Above 20,000 characters no diff markup

Changes can be shown as a revision. Building that comparison is expensive on very long texts, so above this limit it is not used. You then get the result directly rather than for review.

Above 50,000 characters the chat forgets the beginning

A chat conversation is carried along so that follow-up questions make sense. If it gets very long, the beginning drops out. The practical consequence: in a very long conversation the chat can no longer remember what was said right at the start. For a new topic, a new conversation is better than a very long one.

Recordings: 25 MB, so about 13 minutes

Dictation and transcription have an upper limit of roughly 25 MB, which is about 13 minutes of audio. This is the one limit you clearly see: while recording, the remaining budget is displayed, and when the limit is reached the recording stops by itself with a note saying the limit has been hit.

For longer recordings, record in several sections.

The timeout

If the service does not answer within the configured timeout, the operation is aborted. The default is 10 seconds. For long texts or demanding tasks that is quickly too tight – if you see aborts regularly, this is the first value to raise with your administrator.

Scanned PDFs contain no text

Not a number, but the most common disappointment: a scanned PDF is an image. There is no text recognition, so the add-in finds nothing in it and reports that the file contained no text. That is not a fault in your file – the feature simply cannot do it.

You can always cancel

If an operation is taking too long, abort it with Esc.
