Summarising tracked changes

What this does

Task menu ▸ Analyze ▸ Sum-up Revisions

Reads the tracked changes and comments and writes a summary from them – what changed in substance, not just that something changed somewhere.

Useful for a document that has been round several people and holds hundreds of individual changes.

The date question

The add-in asks for the earliest date from which changes should be included, and tells you which range is being analysed.

• Enter a date – only changes from that day on. That shows you what has happened since the last round.
• Leave it empty – all tracked changes. Comments are then only included if they were written no more than 60 minutes before the first change.

An invalid date format aborts the operation.

Requirement: the changes have to be there

The feature evaluates what Word has stored as tracked changes. If changes have already been accepted, they are gone and do not appear. If the add-in reports "No revisions or comments found …", that is the likely reason.

If a summary is already running, the add-in points that out and you wait for it.

What to check

The summary is an interpretation. For legally relevant changes it does not replace looking at the changes themselves – it tells you where to look.
